Codex Alimentarius – Solutions Day (Updated)
The Codex Solutions day was great with a good turnout filling the polytunnel at Hulme Community Garden Centre in Manchester. Some folks there already knew LOTS about Codex, and for others, it was all news.
So many people had stuff to add to what I had to say, most of the afternoon was spent on the negatives with the positives squeezed in at the end! However, enough positive was there for people to see that Codex can be beaten, as long as we keep an eye out for key local-application legislative items in our own countries, since that is what would defeat the easy-and-beneficial Codex Solutions that will by-pass its entire insanity…
The Peoples Voice Media Network were there to film it, which was great of them, so will publish links to the event and interviews when they are ready…
So, in the runup to the event I thought I’d run over my research again and make sure I had enough meat for the day and I must say, when you start reading the actual reports (not the voices against Codex, but their actual materials) and start looking at the various commissions and committees…the sheer INSANITY of many of these nutters in lab coats and suits strikes home…
No words of humanity, inclusion, or even FOOD in there…nope..just chemicals, limits and chemical reactions…this lot are bonkers! Business is mandating for itself for having chemicals you really, really want none of in your food….and they are using scientists to agree that ‘this much won’t kill you’ but in their own reports they admit that they cannot guarantee safety, and that NO ONE knows what happens when you add all these chemicals together in a host, nor what happens when you add them all up over time..It’s all probability studies and finger-in-the-wind at that point and THAT is what is scary and prompted me to conclude that they are, indeed, nutters!
They look at the effects of one chemical or substance – known to be toxic (eg melamine) and decide an ‘acceptable level’, without knowing what happens when than toxin meets others, or what happens over time. Voices of opposition in the meetings, for example, the NHF (www.theNHF.com) have their comments struck from the records to make it appears as if everyone agrees that ‘X’ limit is OK (see melamine example here.)
What Codex seems to represent is the mass removal of choice. We are allowing non-elected representatives that we know nothing about to choose what is permittable in food and what isn’t – it’s all suits and labcoats and I dread to think what will happen as a result of allowing the choice of what is acceptable to have in food and what isn’t to be given to flash suits and labcoats!
As I said at the talk, Science is fast becoming the new religion where when scientists are quoted, (even though you are not told who they are, what their accolades are, and who is paying them) you are simply expected to ‘BELIEVE’ them since they are scientists. This is about TRUST which is BELIEF which is another form of FAITH. We are being told to ‘have faith’ that ‘the scientists’ know what is best for us and will look out for us up against big business and its desire to use chemicals, additives and industrial by-products in food as much as possible.
It is up to each of us to decide if we have FAITH that these parties will represent us well. The evidence from such bastions of the real human such as the NHF (www.thenhf.com) does not give much support to this (the NHF are one of the only pro-health freedom organisations allowed to sit in on the sessions, so they are actually there.) For example, the fight for GMO labelling – see the NHF’s article on one of those GMO labelling sessions at a Codex meeting.
Anyway, there’ll be plenty more on that and more about Codex’s craziness when the film is published.
The day seemed to go down well overall and I’ve been invited to run it again at the 8th Day Cafe in Manchester and at an event run by the Manchester Green Party at dates to be confirmed (they will be in the next few months).
I’ll post both the video of the day and the dates for the next ones here as soon as I have them….meanwhile
